2000 Courage Classic
[photo gallery] We are such veterans! This is the second year for Cameron and I on our tandem and it seems EVERYONE recognizes us from last year. People wave and say 'hi', they wish us well and Cameron is just eating it up. There is a little moisture on the west side of the Cascades which makes us get out the rain gear. But that doesn't stop us from posing or eating & drinking. For a few minutes, the rain is actually coming down quite hard, so we wait for a brief respite and make a break for it. As luck would have it, as soon as we get past the summit, it's dry as a bone. So, being the wiley, experienced Courage Classic riders that we are, we snack our way to the first campground in Cle Elum. No rush this year, that's for sure. Although it is nice to relax after riding all day, as Cameron documented here. Cameron is totally cool and full of attitude this year. If anyone asks, he tells them ALL about how it's supposed to be and what to expect along the way each day. And he's turning into quite the little trip photographer himself. Day two! Up and over Blewett Pass. After, that is, an enormous all-you-can-eat breakfast in Cle Elum. Ever tried pedaling after french toast, hash browns, oatmeal, blintzes, muffins, fruit and cereal...? Don't. That first food stop shows up way too fast, let me tell you. But from there, it's uphill, and I manage to burn some of the calories I consumed for breakfast. Good thing too, because at Blewett Pass, it's time for sandwiches and hot soup. And more posing. That evening, we hit the public pool in Leavenworth and of COURSE we have to get a treat while in town. |
