| Route: Dunedin - Omaru |
Distance Traveled: 125 km |
Rode from Dunedin to Omaru. [on Hwy 1] I was only going to go to Moeraki but then I had a good tailwind.
To get out of Dunedin, you have to climb an incredible hill. It went on and on, GREAT view. [usually a rarity] The downhill truly equaled the uphill. At the bottom, I luckily saw a cyclist take a turn off the main road. I looked at my map and saw it ended up in the same place and so I followed. It turned out to be a beautiful road, mostly sealed, along the coast with NO traffic.
Along the way were the Moeraki boulders. It looks like a giant came along and dropped a bunch of marbles on the beach! They're about one meter in diameter [I was totally metric by now…] in random formations. Some are broken in half. Some are even sticking out of the wall of dirt [that would be an 'embankment', sometimes I loose command of the English language] at the end of the beach. The beach is fabulous.
Omaru looks nice - the campground is great - but I can't see much of it because the motor camp is located at one extreme end. I'll wait until tomorrow.
Training Diary Comments: Hot, windy. 7:15. At first my knee was fine but it wold hurt a little when I would start up after each break.
