This morning I thought the weather was going to break, but no - in spite of the sprinkles and clouds, today was not bad at all. Burkes Pass was just a bump in the road; I guess I already was at elevation because it sits at 2,200'. Lovely roads today; almost no cars and always up, down, right and left. In camp I met Dave Abbot (related to Bud Abbot), a very nice Englishman. He offered [to], and did, drive me up to Peel forest for a great 20 minute walk through the rain forest to a waterfall and out to Woodbury to see an old church made completely out of stones. Both were great places I otherwise would not have had the chance to see. It's amazing how quick a car is after not being in one for three weeks. Tomorrow I HOPE to make it all the way to Christchurch. I think it's about 140 km. I hope it's warmer than today, I hope I have a tailwind... Training Diary Comments: Cool. 5 hrs. Today I would have liked leg warmers but... [I didn't have any] I went sort of hard today, didn't spin too much on hills, hammered on some flats (unofficial intervals)! |
