I covered lots of ground today but the sun never really came out. [Today is my] first day on the road with no sunscreen.

The first part of the ride was nice - some sun & tailwind. But then it got gray. I'm holed up at the Haast Hotel and there is nothing to do. Haast beach is a bust, I'm out of books and I'm out of money. I can't wait to get to Queenstown.

My legs look like they're scared by acne from all the bug bites!

[It's like this. Bugs were not a real problem in NZ with the notable exception of two places. this was one of those. I'm in the hotel and turn out the light. Almost at once, I hear the hum of a mosquito. Soon the hum turns to a dull roar! After failing to keep them out by diving under the blanket and tucking it in around me, i throw it back and turn on the light. to my horror, the corners of the room by the ceiling are black with blood-sucking insects! I had had it. I ended up pitching my tent in the hotel room and getting inside. Safe at last...]

My god I'm bored!
