Distance Traveled: 84 km |
[I] took off down the coast with this couple [Nathan & Grace] I met. They [both] have the same panniers, helmet, shoes, tent, pads, pants, flip-flops, coat, etc.
We got to Curio Bay at the Petrified Forest which is right IN the ocean. On one side of the spit are slow [? - that's what I wrote...] sandy beaches, on the other are rock and petrified forest shelves that the waves break against. The campsites are tucked inside of huge flax bushes. They are about 8' tall. Sand flies abound...
[These 'petrified forest shelves' are layers of an old petrified forest that is now mostly under water. The waves were breaking over tons of ancient logs.]
Today I saw "Gary". He has dreadlocks, doesn't work much and carries his surf board on his bike. He wears "Hot Tuna" shorts. He used to race [bikes].
Training Diary Comments: Windy. Nose a little stuffed, legs still a little sore.
