home | Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4 | Day 5 | Day 6 | Day 7 | Day 8

Today was our first zipline adventure ever and it was awesome. We did a little research and chose the company that did the most zipping, the least standing around and the one that had the longest, biggest zips. After a short drive out the zips, we started out with a little baby line to get our feet wet. We were wearing a full harness and had one line attached to the clip that wrapped around the cable and contained the wheels and another line clipped to another part of the wheel assembly as a safety line. You simply push off and lean back in the harness and enjoy the view!

And on our second zip we sure got a good view. Right away we were doing lines that were 250+ feet long and by the time we hit number five we were sailing 740' across the jungle floor.

Along the way we tried taking off backwards, running down the takeoff ramp, spinning around and steering yourself while in the air and of course landing safely at your destination. :) By the time we were done EVERYONE (of course) wanted more.

After six zips we stopped for lunch at the 'swimming hole' but because of the hard rains the day before it was more like a mud hole and Shelley and I abstained from taking a dip. Not so most of the other clients tho. After four hours we were done.

We headed back to our room, tried to get a last dose of sun in the lounge chairs and finally cleaned up, packed up, went out for dinner and drove to the airport.

Martin: Closed-toed those were required so I had to finally ditch the flip-flops. :(

Martin: A Hummer has nothing on this. It's our bus that will drive us out to the sips.

Martin: Nothing is quite as comfortable as a huge, wet harness. Especially when you are not using it and just standing around.

Martin: The drive out to the zips was through a cattle ranch. Turns out the zipline company just pays rent.

Martin: Okay, this is still the second zip buy hey, you want to document this shit, right? :)

Shelley:

Martin: Just to mix it up they take you across this suspension bridge that you can swing really easy with just your hands. One of guides offered us a Snickers bar if we could cross it without grabbing the ropes. Funny how no one has ever won that bet...

Shelley:

Martin: I actually thought I might make it. Ha!

Martin: [knowing the cameras are rolling, Martin takes his hands off the railing ropes just before exiting the bridge giving the illusion of possessing superior balance skills...]

Martin: All of a sudden the zips were _really_ exciting.

Martin: This one had a long, shallow landing ramp that you could 'surf' up before you had to stand up.

Martin: Here I am getting clipped in to the cable prior to jumping off on the longest zip - 720 feet!

Shelley:

Martin: I don't remember diving off but I guess I gave it a little extra oomph.
