[I] learned a lot today. The taxi driver charged me $40 for a $20 ride. Piss on all Indian in Fiji. What a contrast to the natives. Haggle is the name of the game.
I decided to spend another night here. It gave me a whole day at the resort to veg and sunbathe. I did both. I'm on the coral Coast, about 2/5 of the way to Suva. I had to buy lunch and dinner here because there are no stores and I'm about out of food. Beer is a little steep here but it's very good. All I did today was walk the beach and sit pool-side and read my book and get sun burnt. Even AFTER NZ I got sun burnt!
Just down the road is a place called the Hideaway which is obviously the hopping place. This place [that I'm at] is more for the quiet type, i.e. couples. I met a guy from California here who is just starting his trip around the world and we are the only two singles in the whole place. The quiet is actually nice.
I had a hangover this morning. It's been a long time.
Here the ocean is WARM. You walk in and it just doesn't faze you.
I've resigned myself to not going to another island. It would take a bit of money and I feel strapped. I probably have time but it will have to wait until next time.
[ASIDE - all the postcards you see of Fiji are of island off the shore of the main one. On the main island, the beaches are NOTHING to write home about. It's mostly rocks and crap. All the white, sandy beaches are off-shore. "Show me the money..."]
After dinner the natives at the resort formed a choir and sang for a while. I can hear them from my bed. It's nice.
The beds here have two sheets. You sleep on one and if it's winter, you cover yourself with the other. You don't need blankets. [ever]
I saw some frogs hopping around the resort tonight; big, brown ones.
