Comments: For some reason I can't remember exactly how the break got away now... Early-onset Alzheimer's no doubt. We rode two laps easy and then I tried to get away with one OTB guy on the descent but we were reeled in. I think it was the very next hill that someone accelerated and I followed them, passed them and then saw a couple of riders coming up to me so I waited for wheels and we were off.

At the first prime (20 minutes) we had only been away for one or two laps and and so I decided to go for it as Kerry Farrell was in the main pack and it was one point I could use to catch up to him. Someone accelerated at the very bottom of the hill and so I countered and got it easily. This acceleration dropped a couple from the break and when we rejoined it was just four of us. But the gap was still there so now it was serious and we put our heads down.

At the second prime (35 minutes) I told everyone I'd take a long pull if they'd give me the point and I lead from the top of downhill, down, up and all the way across the finish line. One Excel guy challenged me but I was able to beat him and the rest of the break chastised him for his impetuousness. Kinda funny.

With 2 laps to go I made sure my pulls were just normal again and looking back we had loads of time so I was not worried about being caught. [turns out one guy in the break had two teammates in the field that were shutting it down - nice] On the last hill I got to the front figuring it was the best place to be for a non-sprinter. Out of the corner of my eye I saw someone jump at the very bottom again and so I did too. I got a 20' gap right away and just kept accelerating and shifting and had a super strong finish and won by 30-40'.

I feel lots better now, too bad I can't seem to do that in a 'real' race or on a longer ride...

Oh yeah, just when we thought we were going to have a dry Tuesday night, it started to sprinkle at 6:30. Crap. But it did stop for the race and we just had wet roads for the first half and it was dry by the finish. And not cold - that was good. Actually, the sun WAS out in force once the race started.
Equipment: Hyak - I have GOT to get a 12-23, not having a 16 (with this 12-25) is killing me on the flats...
