Damn, this was a real disappointment... I was SO looking forward to a good workout and it turned into a bit of a debacle. The instructors were brand new and although they had loads of knowledge and enthusiasm, they did not know how to lead or teach or keep a group together or give clear instructions or deal with an unexpected change in plans.
It was lots of 'jogging' around the park and very little work. They did not give the group clear, concise direction and so there was tons of confusion. When we hit the beach and they saw that the tide was in, they did not know what to do so we did some lame calisthenics and the jogged some more. When we hit another beach and there were no rocks to use for weights (because they were under water, they did not know what to do and so tried to use tiny rocks - and did easy exercises to boot. When one woman got stung by a yellow jacket and had a mild reaction, they did not designate one to take care of her and have the other keep leading the group; instead they actually told us to, "jog around in a circle"... Sheesh.
It's lame because they are great people, they just can't teach yet and that takes lots of practice. There is not shortcut to being a good/fun/effective leader. |
