This was my first Friday night at the track and everyone had told me how fast it was. They were right. Not only were the usual local suspects there, four Canadians with team Fast Twitch came down too.
In the scratch race I saw an opportunity to attack about four laps in but only pulled a few guys away from the field. When the field caught us they roared by and I barely caught a wheel! the middle of this race was incredibly quick and I had to hang on for dear life. Towards the end they slowed a tad which just allowed me to get on the back. And then the speed increased for the sprint. I was out the back again and finished half a lap down.
Keirin heats, what can I say... It was fun but shit, I can't go that fast. We got dropped off at about 30 mph and then you sprint. And my heat was the slowest of four! The final was a blast to watch; one of the Canadians surged on the back stretch just enough to overlap Kenny W who thought he was going to get a primo lead out from his teammate. Then he just held his position and did enough work to win and no one could come around.
In the Madison I teamed up with Turgan S and at least I learned a lot and got better. This is a fun event and I want to improve for sure. We finished two laps down on the leaders and botched two exchanges but that's better than my last time. |
