Webmaster (Network/Systems Administrator)

  • Built, configured, installed, cabled, maintained, patched and administered computers running various platforms and servers such as Web (IIS, Apache), Database (Microsoft SQL, MySQL), Mail (Sendmail, Qpopper) and DNS (BIND/named).
  • Supported shared web servers and dedicated (co-located) web servers; created and administered user accounts, client access via FTP and Telnet; generated and installed Secure Certificates.

  • Revised the procedure for setting up and configuring a dedicated/co-located server to maintain consistency and increase efficiency.  This resulted in a security template of sorts for more secure servers, a clear procedure and accountability on the webmaster’s part.

Sales/Retail Manager

  • Administered SBS (Microsoft Small Business Server).  Grew computer network from one stand-alone machine to five clients and a dedicated server.  This included stringing cable, installing connectors, NICs, assembling/building the computers, installing the operating systems, setting up user accounts and establishing connectivity.
  • Administered all computers/software installation/upgrades, point-of-sale software (including upgrading to bar-coding).  Administered an electronic mailing list (Majordomo).
  • Managed retail operation, including screening, interviewing and hiring employees, writing and administering the employee handbook and company policy, employee training, overseeing ad copy and production, product promotion/product reviews and athlete sponsorship.
  • As a result of the employee handbook, employee conduct was made enforceable and job descriptions were clear.  In the case of one employee who was let go, everything was well documented.
  • As a result of the new POS software, top movers were tracked and kept in stock and slow movers were eliminated.  This also allowed for consistent margins on our sales and speed up quote generation and delivery of custom orders.
  • Brought in an outside investor and grew the gross revenue from $100,000 to $500,000.
  • Introduced two-tier pricing (wholesale/retail) and created a national presence with product reps.
  • Helped move the retail store from an obscure location to an urban center on a bicycle path with parking.

  • Restructured repair job pricing on a profitable, hourly rate based on the average time it took to complete each task.  Rates were configured using the Barnett Bicycle Institute flat rate chart.
  • Proposed and implemented new SKUs for service packages and service shop hourly rate based on the Barnett Bicycle Institute flat rate chart.
  • Staffed repair shop, trained mechanics and standardized procedures.  Instituted inventory control system to ensure key items were never out of stock, thereby increasing organization and eliminating duplicate orders and non-turning inventory.
